4 Common Causes of Suction Side Leaks in Pool Pumps

Check the pump lid O-ring first A dried-out, unseated, or loose O-ring is the most common cause. Apply silicone lube or replace the gasket to fix it.

Inspect the skimmer weir door and water level A sticking weir door or low water in the skimmer can pull air into the system. Ensure the door moves freely and the water level is high enough.

Look for cracks or loose fittings A cracked pump basket or a loose threaded fitting on the suction side can also let air in. Tighten or replace as needed.
