3 Ways to Prevent Pool Algae Without Chemicals

  1. Run your pump 8–12 hours daily Algae needs still water to grow. Keep the water moving, especially in corners and steps. Short cycling is the most common cause of surprise algae blooms.

  2. Cover the pool when not in use A solar cover blocks UV light that algae thrives on. It also keeps leaves and debris out, so you’re not adding nutrients to the water.

  3. Remove phosphates with a one-time treatment Phosphates are algae food. Use a phosphate remover after opening and after heavy rain. It binds to phosphates so algae can’t eat, letting you run lower chlorine levels (1–3 ppm).
