3 Ways Pearl Jam Formed From Mother Love Bone’s Tragedy

Mother Love Bone dissolved after frontman Andrew Wood’s heroin overdose in 1990. Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard then started jamming with guitarist Mike McCready.

The trio sent an instrumental demo to San Diego surfer Eddie Vedder. Vedder wrote and recorded vocals over it without seeing the band first.

Pearl Jam was born directly from this chain of events. The band’s formation was a direct result of Wood’s death and the subsequent collaboration.
