Backwashing too often wastes water and removes good filter media. A slightly dirty filter catches smaller particles more effectively. Let it build up that fine filtration layer.

Install a pressure gauge if you don’t have one. They are cheap and turn guessing into knowing. The only exception is after an algae bloom or heavy debris dump—then backwash when pressure says so, and again once water clears to reset the media.
