The DS920+ has 4GB of soldered DDR4 RAM plus a SO-DIMM slot that accepts up to 8GB. This gives a combined maximum of 12GB total.

That 12GB ceiling is the highest of any hybrid Synology in the DS series. No other DS model with soldered RAM can match it.

You cannot exceed 12GB by using a larger SO-DIMM. The slot is capped at 8GB, so the soldered 4GB sets the hard limit.
