3 Things to Know About SMC Reset on M-Series Macs

M-series Macs don’t have an SMC to reset Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3) integrated the SMC functions into the main chip, so there’s nothing to reset with a key combo.

For Intel MacBook Air (2018 or earlier, or 2020 Intel model), reset the SMC by holding left Shift + Control + Option + Power for 7 seconds Shut down and plug in power first. Release all keys, then press Power to start. This works for most battery, fan, or charging issues.

For M-series Macs, the equivalent fix is a full shutdown for 30 seconds Shut down completely, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. That clears most power-management glitches. No key combos needed.
