3 Things to Know About RAM in a PowerEdge T320
Desktop RAM won’t work The T320 requires registered ECC (RDIMM) memory. Non-ECC desktop DDR3 is unbuffered and electrically incompatible, causing boot failures or POST hangs.
Mixing RDIMMs is fine You can combine different capacities and speeds of RDIMMs, as long as they are all ECC registered. Don’t try to use non-ECC sticks.
Buy used server RAM Used 8GB or 16GB RDIMMs are cheap on eBay and drop right in. Treat the T320 like a server, not a desktop PC.
