3 Things to Know About ECC RAM on Threadripper
Unbuffered ECC (UDIMMs) is what Threadripper expects Registered memory (RDIMMs) won’t fit in the slots and won’t work. Threadripper’s memory controller on Zen1 was designed for unbuffered DIMMs only.
ECC works if the board supports it and the RAM is unbuffered Unraid doesn’t care about ECC type — it just sees corrected errors if the hardware is doing its job. Enable ECC in BIOS after installing compatible sticks.
Don’t confuse server ECC with consumer ECC On older server platforms, “ECC” automatically meant registered (RDIMMs). On consumer TR4, it’s UDIMMs only. Registered memory is for Epyc and Xeon, not Threadripper.
