3 Things to Know About Backwashing a DE Filter
Backwash only when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 psi above the clean starting pressure. That is the only reliable signal your filter needs.
Do not backwash on a fixed schedule. Doing it too early wastes DE powder and water, and can allow debris to pass through the filter.
Check the gauge weekly during normal use. In heavy summer conditions—lots of leaves, daily swimming, or extreme heat—check every few days instead.
