You can add a SODIMM to soldered RAM, but you cannot remove the soldered portion. The soldered 16GB stays in place; you simply add another stick in the slot to reach a higher total, like 32GB.

Most laptops with combined soldered and slot RAM support this configuration, but check your model’s specs first. Some cheap or older models cap the SODIMM at 8GB or have a BIOS limit that prevents the full 32GB.

If the slot is already occupied, you can replace that module with a larger one instead. Swap the existing SODIMM for a 16GB or 32GB stick, as long as the slot and total system limit allow it.
