3 Steps to Store a MacBook Battery Long-Term
Charge to 50% Apple recommends storing the battery at 50% charge. A full charge stresses the chemistry, and a dead battery can fall into deep discharge and become unusable.
Turn it off completely Do not leave the MacBook in sleep mode. Over months, sleep drains the battery to zero. Store it in a cool, dry place under 80°F, avoiding hot attics or freezing garages.
Check every 3-4 months Top up the battery to 50% if it has dropped. No special cycling or draining is needed.
