3 Steps to Better Dusting

  1. Use a damp microfiber cloth instead of dry dusting Dry dusting with a feather duster or dry cloth kicks particles into the air, where they settle again in hours. A slightly damp microfiber cloth traps the dust instead.

  2. Vacuum with a HEPA filter before dusting Run the vacuum first on a low setting for hard floors, then damp-dust. This picks up floor debris before you wipe surfaces, preventing you from just pushing dirt around.

  3. Wash bedding and curtains in hot water, and replace furnace filters every three months These are the high-impact items. Skip expensive sprays and “allergen” gadgets—soap and water work best.
