3 Reasons Your Mousepad Has Dead Zones

Dirt on the surface The optical sensor loses track when dirt creates inconsistent light reflection. This is most common where your hand rests or where you slam the mouse down.

Worn-out texture The pad’s surface can wear smooth over time, especially in high-use areas. This prevents the sensor from tracking properly.

The pad itself is the problem Try cleaning with mild soap and water, then air dry completely. If that doesn’t work, flip the pad over and test on a different surface. If the dead zone follows the pad, replace it—they’re cheap enough to not fight over.
