3 Reasons to Replace the HDD With an SSD First

  1. An SSD is the single biggest speed upgrade for an old laptop Your computer isn’t slow because it’s low on memory—it’s slow because the hard drive is the bottleneck. Even opening a browser takes forever with an HDD.

  2. 8GB RAM is still enough for most everyday tasks Browsing, Office, streaming, and light photo editing don’t need more than 8GB. Upgrading RAM gives a smaller performance boost for the same or more money as a decent 500GB SSD.

  3. The only exception is soldered RAM you can’t upgrade later If you know you need more memory for specific work and can’t add it later, consider RAM first. But even then, the HDD is the bigger pain. Do the SSD first.
