3 Reasons Not to Use a Non-Polarized Extension Cord with a Polarized Plug
It creates an electrocution risk A polarized plug has one wider blade to ensure hot and neutral wires connect correctly. Using a non-polarized cord lets you plug it in backward, which can leave the device’s metal chassis or exposed parts live even when switched off.
It bypasses built-in safety features Appliances like lamps, kitchen gadgets, and electronics rely on correct polarization to keep the hot wire away from user-accessible areas. Flipping the connection removes that protection.
