3 Reasons Not to Reuse DDR4 RAM Coolers on DDR5
Physical incompatibility is likely DDR5 sticks have a different PCB layout with the power management IC and voltage regulators moved onto the stick itself. Clip-on DDR4 coolers often won’t clear these components or may press down on them, causing shorts or physical damage.
Thermal characteristics differ DDR5 modules run hotter in some spots and cooler in others than DDR4. A DDR4 cooler was not designed for this heat distribution, so it may provide no benefit or even worsen cooling.
Most DDR5 sticks already have adequate heatsinks Factory-installed heatsinks on DDR5 are generally sufficient. Spending money on a cooler that may not fit or work properly is not worth the hassle.
