Your CPU and motherboard likely don’t support ECC Consumer Intel Core and AMD Ryzen (non-Pro) chips rarely support ECC. Even if the motherboard has slots, the chipset or BIOS often ignores ECC functionality, so the RAM runs in non-ECC mode.
ECC is overkill for a Plex server Unless you’re storing irreplaceable data that must be protected from cosmic rays, ECC is unnecessary. A simple nightly backup is more practical and cost-effective.
You’re better off spending on a bigger hard drive The money spent on ECC RAM is better used for additional storage. Your gaming PC will work fine without it.
