3 Reasons ECC RAM Is Overkill for Pi-hole

  1. DNS queries are too simple for ECC to matter A bit flip in RAM would need to hit the exact right data at the exact wrong time to cause a crash. That is astronomically unlikely for small, simple DNS operations.

  2. Most Pi-hole hardware doesn’t support ECC Raspberry Pi and similar ARM boards lack ECC support entirely. Building a custom x86 server just for ECC is massive overkill for a DNS sinkhole.

  3. Real Pi-hole crashes come from other causes Power supply issues, SD card corruption, or software bugs are the actual culprits. Spend your money on a good power supply and a healthy SD card instead.
