2-slot RAM vs 4-slot RAM: Two sticks in two slots is the sweet spot for most builds

Running 2x8GB in a two-slot motherboard gives you dual-channel memory just as well as 4x4GB in a four-slot board with no performance difference. Two sticks are easier on the memory controller, especially for Ryzen, and improve airflow. The only downside is no upgrade path without replacing both sticks, but if 16GB is enough now, it’s a problem for later.
